A frank talk with customers about Disasters
A disaster can strike any one of your clients at any time. If it is a catastrophic disaster that’s weather-related  like a hurricane, tornado or flood, it could affect many of your clients at the same time.  Of course there are other kinds of disasters such as crashed servers and data loss. So how prepared are your clients to survive a disaster?

Your clients probably are a mixture of preparedness. Some may have taken adequate precautions, some may think they are prepared but really are not and then there are those that turn a blind eye and feel a disaster will never strike them.

Listed below are ways you can help them

1.       The days of taking  backup tapes home in the car glove box are long gone. Clue your clients in to the dangers. Suggest reliable solutions like Offsite Data Backup. That would not only help their business survive a disaster but help them recover more quickly. Time is money to them. Downtime could easily result in lost customers. Their data is who they are. The continuation of their business depends on their data.

2.       Carefully evaluate each of your client’s individual needs. Every business, big or small, needs to have a disaster recovery plan. A disaster that strikes a small company could be a business ending event as well as for a larger company. Don’t be swayed into thinking they can't afford disaster recovery solutions. Help them find a solution that will fit their budget. They can’t afford ‘not’ to be protected.

3.       Continuously research new solutions on the market that will best serve your clients. They rely on your knowledge and expertise. You are their lifeline. Their survival may very well be dependent on you. Help each of your clients prepare. Guide them. They need your direction.

Disaster Recovery Tips
  • Make sure mission critical data is taken offsite every day either electronically or physically

  • Suggest transferring tapes and hard drives in a turtle box until an offsite backup solution is found
  • Make sure more that one employee at your clients sites can perform their backup to cover for vacations and absences.
